 Merit and Demerit of Hydroelectric Power Plant:

             Merits

1. The plant is highly reliable and it is cheapest in operation and maintances.

2. The plant can be run up and synchronised in a few minutes.

3. There are no standby losses in such plant.

4. The efficiency of the such plant does not fall with the age.

5.It is very neat and clean plants because no smoke or ash is produced.


             Demerit

1.It require large area.

2. its construction cost is extremely high.

3.The output of powerplant is not always constant.

However, reactive power is a concept specific to AC (alternating current) systems , and here's why DC systems don't have reactive power in the same sense: 1.
